How to change the smoke alarm battery

A smoke alarm is the only device that can forewarn you and your loved ones about a fire. Almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in properties without working smoke alarms, according to the National Fire Protection Association. It is important to maintain your smoke alarm and check it monthly. If your smoke alarm seems to not be working properly, you should change the battery. Sometimes your smoke alarm will beep to warn you about low battery life.

Steps to change your smoke alarm:

1: Carefully remove the smoke detector from it’s place on the wall or ceiling. Look on the back and find the battery door

2. Remove the batteries from the back and make certain you have the right batteries to replace them. This might be tough. You will need to pull the battery hard until it is released. Throw the old batteries away properly.

3. Connect your new batteries to the connectors and snap them in place.

4. Close battery door and hang back up.

5. Push the test button to check the functionality of the smoke alarm. If the test button does not work, check the installation and refer to the owners manual.

Make it a habit to change your batteries at least once a year. Always remember to test your batteries monthly. A smoke alarm can save your family as well as your house if properly working.
