Accent Lighting
Accent Lighting creates contrast in a room... Think about it, the scenes that look the best to us in a picture are generally scenes with a high degree of contrast. Example: Sunrise, Sunsets. These times of the day offer the most amount of contrast
Basic ceiling lights - surface or recessed - flood the room with light and create no contrast in the room at all. Accent lighting layers the lighting in the room and creates visual cues for our eyes. It lights the focus point at a higher level than the rest of the room.
See the difference in three rooms we installed accent lighting in for one of our clients in the video below:
Types of accent lighting:
- Low Voltage Recessed Can: Applications: Wall Art, Paintings, Pictures, Architectural Focal Points
- Low Voltage Track Lighting: Applications: Wall Art, Paintings, Pictures, Architectural Focal Points, Task Lighting
- Low Voltage Xenon Fixture: Application: Under Cabinet, Above Cabinet
- Low Voltage Puck Fixture: In Cabinet, Art Niche
- Rope Lighting: Applications: Ceiling accent
- Cove Lighting: Ceiling illumination, Wall Art
- Projector, Wall Art - Highly Precise, Controlled Illumination
TIP:
Here is an inexpensive room upgrade: Try the following approach to create a warmer feel in your family room. Put a dimmer on the light switch controlling the ceiling lights. Install table or floor lamps by the sitting area. Put lamp dimmers on the lamp(s). In the evening, try dimming the ceiling lights to about 20-30% power and bring up the lamp dimmers to about 50-70%. You will notice immediately a higher degree of contrast in the room and a rich, warmer feel.
